Meet your Coach, Susie Davis
I’m Susie – I’m a wife, a personal trainer, a high school coach, and a Christian. I’m a confident, fun-loving, live in the moment, optimistic, sometimes sarcastic, straight shooter who loves to laugh and make others laugh. I was the typical tomboy growing up – always playing ball with the boys, whatever sport was in season. My only hobby was always sports – nothing else, just sports. I played volleyball, basketball and softball in high school and continued playing softball through college. In college my love of sports grew to include fitness and nutrition and I loved working out and reading anything related to it. I was an athletic trainer and earned my degree in sports medicine from Mount Union College but decided that wasn’t really what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I minored in education and decided I would become a teacher and coach. It’s funny how life works. Right after graduation the local chemical plant was hiring so I applied, just to make some money until I could begin my teaching career. Twenty-five years later, I was still working there.
Outside of work I have a great family, am active in our local church and am happily married to the love of my life. I love being his assistant at our alma mater where he is the girls basketball head coach. It’s truly a blessing to get to spend so much time together doing something we both love, and he’s really good at it, too . We live with our two golden retrievers, Wishes and Peyton, and our cat, Frank. We love life, especially our little weekend getaways and our trips to the beach where we hope to retire someday.
A few years ago I decided to delve back into my fitness passion by becoming an ACE certified personal trainer. I’m not sure if I ever thought it would become a career, but it was something I enjoyed. I followed that by becoming a certified speed and agility coach and then a nutrition coach and am currently in the process of becoming an ACE certified behavior change specialist.
In 2017 I was given an incredible opportunity when my company offered an incentive plan to retire early. I had become increasingly frustrated at work the last few years, but it’s hard to walk away from a good paying job with no other job prospects. While the idea seemed great, I had my doubts. But I’ll never forget my husband telling me that we’d been praying for an opportunity like this for two years, “so if you don’t take it, I’m not really sure what we’re praying for.”
So I officially resigned my job of almost 26 years in April 2018. Did I have another job? No. Did I know what I was going to do? No. I had an idea of what I wanted to do, but no plan to make it happen. Was I scared? Absolutely! Was I crazy for doing this? Maybe, but I believe it was the right move. You see, I also believe in the power of prayer and I believe that God has a plan and a purpose for me and for you. He wants us to live our lives to fulfill that purpose, and He gives us talents and abilities and desires and passions and gifts to do just that!
So where are you in your life? Are you fulfilled in your life – living a life that is all that you were created to be? If so, give thanks and keep going!! If not, what is holding you back? For me it was always fear of failure. For you it may be that or fear of change, fear of the unknown, fear of not being good enough, fear of having to ask for help, or any multitude of other things. Don’t let fear keep you from being the person you were meant to be! For others, you may not be physically able to do what you are meant to do. That is why I created Fearless & Fit – to help you have a healthy, fit body physically and encourage you spiritually as well. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
I am so thankful I did not let my fears hold me back. We all have our own unique journey and purpose in life. I want to help you experience whatever amazing things God has in store for you! Together we can create a customized plan to help you build healthy eating and exercise habits to start your transformation physically. Once you begin your fitness journey, whether the goal is getting stronger, healthier, leaner, or just feeling and moving better – the physical changes will begin to translate other ways. You will begin to feel better about yourself, more confident, and hopefully more able to be the person you were created to be.
